The Charles Construction Services of today was born from a pivotal market consolidation. In January 2024, owner Ryan Smith merged two of the region’s most respected firms: Lima-based Hume Supply Inc. (founded 1948) and Findlay-based Charles Construction Services Inc. (founded 1983).
This wasn’t just an acquisition; it was a strategic move to unite two powerhouses that had long operated with a mutual respect and an unspoken boundary. By combining a 75-year legacy of experience, we created a single, dominant entity with an undisputed service area across Northwest Ohio. We now offer our clients the combined resources, portfolio, and expertise of two legacy firms, establishing a new standard for construction in the region.
The direction of our company is guided by owner Ryan Smith, whose background in civil engineering and business management is complemented by a deep, hands-on understanding of the industry. Ryan’s philosophy is built on a client-centric partnership. He believes in guiding customers through the entire project lifecycle, championing the flexibility required to adapt plans as a vision takes physical form.
